
On September 14, 2023, Sisimiut Museum hosted a heartwarming opening for their latest exhibition about Aasivissuit – Nipisat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Central Greenland. The exhibition delves into the hunter-gatherer people of the past and depicts their life in an egalitarian society.

The exhibition in B32 at Sisimiut Museum is now open to visitors during the museum’s normal opening hours. The museum encourages citizens to visit and appreciate this unique presentation of past and present hunter-gatherer culture.

In addition to the indoor exhibition, a Qajaq stand (allunaariaqattaarfik) is now also part of the Aasivissuit – Nipisat outdoor exhibition, including a replica of the Aasivissuit tent house and hunting installations such as a fox trap, shooting hide and more. Children and young people are encouraged to try the stand with an adult and an instructor.

The Aasivissuit – Nipisat working group sends a huge thank you to the Sisimiut Qajaq association and CTI for their valuable cooperation. This is a step towards preserving and sharing the rich cultural heritage that Aasivissuit – Nipisat represents. The museum looks forward to continued engagement and support from the community in the preservation of this important heritage.

The beautiful new exhibition is part of the Aasivissuit – Nipisat communication initiative supported by Qeqqata Kommunia and several foundations and is set up by local artist Arnajaraq Støvlbæk.
